Last year, over 48,000 children and young people were on their own when they experienced homelessness. They had no choice but to fend for themselves in a system largely built for adults.
When a child or young person is forced into homelessness, every second counts.
They can find themselves out on the streets at a moment’s notice, often with nothing but a few hastily packed belongings – or worse, with nothing but the clothes on their back.
Without guidance and support, these vulnerable young people can rapidly fall through the gaps and deeper into crisis.
But if they receive specialist support early on, we can reduce the risk of further harm and dramatically improve their safety and wellbeing in the long term.
